^Lactating mares have a very high requirement for quality protein to support milk production. If using Hygain Balanced® it is important to add a portion of lucerne hay, or another quality source of protein, to the diet to meet this requirement. Please consult with one of our equine nutritionists if needing to formulate a diet for a weanling.

#Yearlings have a high requirement for vitamin D to support bone growth and development. We recommend adding 3-6g of Hygain Bonafide® to a yearling's diet to ensure this requirement is met.

*This feeding guide is based on the assumption that the horse has ad lib access to roughage. If this is not the case, please contact our nutrition team for a tailored nutritional plan.

WARNING: Do not feed a concentrated feed beyond the recommended feeding rates as this will cause excessive intake of nutrients which can be harmful.

Feeding Tips:

  • Introduce Hygain Balanced® to your horse's diet gradually over a 7-14 day period.
  • Feed by weight and not by volume.
  • Feed a minimum of 1.5% of your horse's body weight daily as roughage.
  • Horses have a small stomach, so feed little and often.
  • Ensure horses have access to clean water.
  • Do not add additional vitamins or minerals unless directed by a nutritionist or veterinarian.
  • Adjust feed intake according to age, breed, appetite, activity level, climate and body condition.
